About Capital High School Lady Jags Basketball

The Capital High School Lady Jags Basketball program is committed to developing young athletes through elite training, competitive play, and character-building mentorship. Our program provides athletes with the tools, coaching, and support they need to succeed—on and off the court. Competing in Class 5A in New Mexico and based in Santa Fe, NM, the Lady Jags emphasize skill-building, teamwork, and personal growth while facing strong competition in District 2-5A.
 

Meet the Coaching and Support Staff 

Our coaching and support staff is made up of passionate, dedicated individuals who bring unique experience, energy, and heart to the program. From coaching and mentoring to team management, our team is united in one mission: helping young athletes grow on and off the court. This marks the coaching staff's inaugural season leading the Lady Jags.
 

Jonathan Salazar - Head Coach

With a lifelong passion for the game, Coach Salazar leads Capital High School Lady Jags Basketball with expertise, dedication, and a deep commitment to player development. He began his coaching journey over 25 years ago. Off the court, his 20+ years of professional experience working with youth and families has shaped his coaching philosophy—focusing on skill development, teamwork, and personal growth.
 

Coach Salazar has held multiple Varsity Head Coach positions, including:

• Desert Academy Boys – Varsity Head Coach

• Pojoaque Valley High School Girls – Varsity Head Coach

• Capital High School Boys – Assistant Head Coach
   

Through Capital High Lady Jags Basketball, Coach Salazar continues to work with the next generation of athletes, helping them reach their full potential both in basketball and in life.
 

Adrianna Montoya - Associate Head Coach

Coach Montoya brings extensive experience and a strong connection to the Capital High community to her role as Associate Head Coach. She previously served as an assistant coach at Capital High School for five years, contributing to player development and team strategy. A dedicated educator, she currently teaches with Santa Fe Public Schools, where she combines her passion for teaching with her love for basketball to mentor young athletes both in the classroom and on the court.
 

Rebecca Sorenson - JV Coach

As JV Coach, Rebecca Sorenson focuses on building foundational skills and preparing younger players for varsity-level competition, drawing on her coaching expertise to foster growth and team spirit.
 

Alexia Verdugo - C Team Coach

Alexia Verdugo serves as C Team Coach, guiding entry-level players with an emphasis on fundamentals, confidence-building, and enjoyment of the game.
 

Seth Abeita - Varsity Bench Coach

Seth Abeita provides valuable support as Varsity Bench Coach, offering in-game insights, player motivation, and assistance with practice sessions to enhance team performance.
 

Espi Archuleta - Manager

Espi Archuleta handles essential team management duties, ensuring smooth operations from practices to games and supporting the overall program with dedication and organization.

Together, this team brings a mix of experience, talent, and heart that fuels the mission of Capital High School Lady Jags Basketball.
